Requirements
The American Heart Institute is a pioneer in adapting new methods of best practice for cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery, and this striving for perfection is also reflected in this new-build Project in Cyprus aiming to provide the best quality of care in a technologically advanced medical environment and therefore being specified to the highest standards. Dortek was a natural choice as a door system supplier, being at the forefront of hygienic performance door technology.
Solution
Various bespoke Dortek door systems were selected for installation, reflecting the uniqueness of the facilities’ requirements – the hygienic advantages and long lifespan of Dortek’s doors were of course the primary prerequisites, but also such details as door accessibility, visual contrast, opening forces, automations and interlocking, fire resistance, smoke and air control, sound reduction and even the special ironmongery positions needed made the selection of the correct type of doors of paramount importance.
Cleanroom doors were used for the Operating Theatre, the Post Operative Critical Care Unit and the Intensive Care Unit, and these need to be impact and water resistant and neutral to deep-cleaning regimes involving such agents as Vaporised Hydrogen Peroxide (VHP). The doors in the Intensive Care Unit were also hermetically-sealing and interlocked to control air flow.
Stainless steel transfer hatches were installed in order to enable the controlled movement of materials between rooms to minimize the risk of airborne cross-contamination.
The complete package of doors, automations, and interlocking as well as the transfer hatches were fully commissioned by Dortek engineers in 2010.
