Dortek were selected by S & P Architects who are specialists in the design of leisure and swimming pool environments. Through their experience they recognised the need for a high performance composite door and specified our GRP Waterproof doors to the poolside and wet changing areas. Dortek’s unique concealed intumescent strip detail was of particular importance in the proposal as a number of fire rated doors, which needed comply with BS – EN standards were in areas with high moisture levels. This specification enables the the seamless moulded construction of the door and frame to remain, therefore offering unparalleled contemporary aesthetics, performance and longevity. The clients concept also called for Dortek to produce special non standard colours throughout the scheme.
Solution
The Dortek doors were procured through M & S contractors, who in turn were employed by Morgan Sindall. We worked closely with both parties at site survey stage to ensure that the interface between the doors and related trades, ie structural walls, flooring, tiling etc, was agreed before submitting drawings for approval prior to manufacture. This is a typical Dortek procedure, ensuring that the exacting requirements of the project are met. The non standard colours were produced and incorporated into the resin at the moulding stage, therefore redecoration of the doors will never be required, thus ensuring that the aesthietics are maintained whilst reducing ongoing life cycle costs.
