Requirements
In 2000 Singapore launched an ambitious Biomedical Sciences Initiative designed to make the country the biomedical hub of Asia. A Medical Education Review Panel chaired by Lord Oxburgh of England evaluated the plan and recommended that Singapore establish a graduate medical school (Duke-NUS) to produce the highly trained physician-scientists needed to support the Biomedical Sciences Initiative. Duke and the National University of Singapore signed a formal agreement in April 2005 under which the two institutions would partner to establish a new medical school in Singapore.
The government of Singapore solicited Duke’s interest in helping it create a new graduate medical school because of the medical centres renowned reputation as one of the best medical schools in the world. The National University of Singapore (NUS) is Singapore’s flagship university. The university includes an undergraduate medical school. The Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School Singapore will complement the existing school.
The Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School is located in the heart of Singapore on the campus that also houses Singapore General Hospital (SGH).
Duke-NUS will also affiliate with SingHealth entities located elsewhere in Singapore, including the KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Changi General Hospital, and the National Neuroscience Institute.
The permanent facilities comprise 24,000 square meters of floor space, including a generous amount of wet-lab research space as well as classrooms, teaching labs, and administrative offices.
Solution
Dortek were involved early in the design working with the client, architect and contractor on the correct door specification for each application.
We supplied and installed over 60 hygienic GRP doorsets which were a variety of specifications – hinged, sliding, non fire rated, fire rated, manual and automatic.
Our doors were chosen due to their proven hygienic performance in this particular type of application, resistance to cleaning agents and Dortek’s ability to carry out the complete design, management and installation package from the local Singapore office.
Dortek are also currently installing doors on another similar project designed by the same architect for the National University of Singapore. For this project the client travelled to the UK to visit facilities and meet customers that have been using Dortek hygienic doors for many years.
The project was completed in 2009.
