Requirements
The National University Hospital (NUH) became the first government-owned restructured hospital on the 24th June 1985. The three main focuses are patient care, research and education. NUH has made significant investments which have ensured the hospital can provide advanced, leading-edge medical care and services in the following medical specialties:

In 2004, the National University Hospital became the first hospital in Singapore to receive Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation. This endorsement is recognised internationally, as the best in patient safety and quality.
Solution
Dortek doors were specified on the project by Broadway Malyan Architects. The primary reasons for specifying were the combination of superior hygienic performance, the air sealing capabilities, X ray protection and fully certified 2 hour fire rating. Also all doors are automated using Dortek’s own automation which has proven reliability in both hospital and cleanroom facilities.
The new Hand and Reconstructive Microsurgery Centre has hygienic hermetic sliding doors complete with 3mm lead protection in both door and frame. The Angiography Centre has 2 hour fire rated hygienic sliding doors and the new Dental Centre has hygienic hermetic sealing sliding doors.
The architect recognised that specifying hermetic sealing doors would reduce the amount of leakage of clean air to atmosphere meaning less clean air needs to be produced and therefore have a positive impact on the energy cost of the building. The use of automated sliding rather than hinged doors also saves on floor area and makes for a very user friendly facility.
