Requirements
The super dairy, sited at North Petherton, Bridgewater, Somerset is a new facility (milk bottling) with an area of 325,000m2. The capabilities of this facility can be increased and allow for 500 million litres, making it the largest organic milk processing facility outside of the United States of America. This production accounts for 10% of the UK’s milk needs.
This flagship project won the RIBA/Guild of Architectural Ironmongery Specification Award for Best Commercial Building and is said to be the most environmentally advanced dairy operation in the United Kingdom.
Solution
The plant was constructed by A and H Construction and over 50 door sets were supplied from the Dortek GRP range to Wisemans in Bridgewater.
In every project with Wiseman’s, Dortek have worked with the client to ensure ultimate performance and operation of our doors and that they meet the demands of the facilities operational requirements.
Wiseman’s architects specified our fire and non fire rated GRP doors throughout the facility all with varying specification. Over and above the specification of doors, we installed a two piece wrap around frame that integrated our doors with composite panels supplied and installed by Advance Coldstore Technology, otherwise known as ACT.
GRP doors are specifically engineered for harsh environments such as dairies. Many independent tests have been carried out to make sure fire resistance meets with hygienic performance. Within dairies and wet areas it is particularly important that a door can withstand daily wear and tear and also be subjected to rigorous cleaning regimes. Dortek GRP doors provide end user confidence, as they do not warp, rust or swell; these are characteristics that make Dortek doors the only suitable material for these facilities.
