Requirements

imageWyeth is a global leader in pharmaceuticals, consumer health products, and animal care products. Wyeth has 50,000 employees across four continents. Wyeth is the largest pharmaceutical employer in Ireland with over 3,000 employees in five locations.

The Askeaton facility, established in 1974, employs over 550 people, manufacturing and distributing infant nutritional products – both powdered infant formulas and a range of liquid, read-to-feed products. The Askeaton facility is one of Europe’s leading producers of infant and child nutritional products.

The projects have involved expansions to its existing powder production plant and the construction of the new process and packaging line, ready-to-feed.

Dortek have worked with Wyeth on numerous projects since the early 80s.

Solution

imageFor over 30 years, Dortek have continued to manufacture and supply GRP doors to Wyeth, Askeaton. Over this period of time, various contractors and refurbishment consultants have played a huge part in the development of the facility to its current state of operational capabilities.

Dortek have supplied in excess of 100 GRP hinged/sliding, fire and non-fire rated doors to the nutritional facility, these areas included changing rooms and access routes to production areas.

GRP is the only suitable door option for baby nutritional production areas, whether it is at the point of entry “wet” areas where the milk is being delivered, through milk treatment areas, and then up into the drying tower and packaging areas where powder is the issue. These “dry” areas are just as critical as Wyeth need to maintain a very high level of hygiene. Much of this milk powder will end up in the diets of babies. The hygiene bar could not be set higher than on this site

This is an interesting site for Dortek as it demonstrates the development of GRP doors over the last 30+ years. The basic product is still recognisably the same, providing continuity to Wyeth, however a visitor can trace the history of GRP doors, as the method of installation changed, frames were improved, fire rated doors were introduced, vision panels increased in size, yet all the time maintaining the original specification of a high quality hygienic door.

Thirty years on we are still working with Wyeth and maintaining those original doors. Ironmongery may have been replaced, but the doors are still there.

Throughout all of the modifications within the facility, Dortek have provided many solutions and worked in conjunction with project contractors or the client directly.
