In the Frame
July 29, 2008
Glenn Hogarth, UK Commercial Manager looks at Dortek’s range of frames in this months' product focus.
GRP Frames
The GRP frame offers the utmost level of hygienic performance when combined with a Dortek GRP door. Features such as recessed hinges, contoured profiles and a self coloured finish continue through the fire rated door range. This frame is ideally suited to new build applications where the structural opening is being prepared to agreed dimensions.
Available in three standard depths and also incorporating Dortek’s unique patented concealed intumescent detail.
Aluminum Frame
An alternative to the GRP frame is a two-piece aluminum wraparound unit. To suit wall depths of 50-100mm it has an extruded profile available in a range of finishes and is simple to install.
Stainless Steel
We find ourselves installing an increasing number of stainless steel frames. This material is generally considered to be durable and aesthetically acceptable in the hygienic environments we specialise in. Whilst we do have standard profiles, the adaptability of the material and of ourselves means that many of the frames we now produce are designed to specifically suit the client’s requirements particularly on refurbishment projects.
An unusual situation presented itself recently when a corridor of existing timber doors in steel frames were to be replaced. Due to the working environment, it was imperative that construction debris be kept to a minimum. Upon conducting a site survey it became apparent that the existing frames were built in to the walls and could not be removed without major disturbance to decoration. The decision was taken to leave the frames in place and manufacture bespoke stainless steel frames to encapsulate them, allowing us to fit new GRP door blades within.
The additional cost of the frames was more than recovered in not needing to re-build openings and in fact shortened the on-site programme by 40%.
We are able to produce stainless steel frames to suit any number of on-site situations and requirements including; sloping tops for ease of cleaning, increased frame stop to offer protection to the hinge edge of the door, concealed fixings, adjustable wall depths and non-standard jamb details.
