Dortek - Market Leader in GRP Doors

Sustainability

Our Approach image

Working towards sustainability in all our products and production and delivery processes is our business and personal responsibility. To deliver this Dortek will:

- Incorporate sustainability into all product and process research and design.

- Comply with or exceed applicable legal requirements related to the environmental impacts of the company.

- Reduce energy, raw material usage and waste and prevent or minimise pollution and environmental damage.

Dortek is committed to continually improving the work methods and processes to reduce our carbon footprint. In partnership with Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI) Dortek has made significant reductions in our emissions and energy consumption.

Sustainable Products

Dortek doors are designed, manufactured and built with materials that produce a robust door set proven to last up to 25 years, considerably longer than other doorset options. On reaching the end of their application in a particular opening, the doorsets can be easily demounted and transferred to another opening, extending useful life. Upon reaching the end of their useful life, the Dortek doorset can be safely disassembled into it’s glazed, stainless steel, aluminium, insulation and GRP elements. These can be recovered from site and entered into the relevant industry’s recycling programme. Dortek doors are also considerably lighter and more durable than substitute laminate, timber and steel door types. This reduces the wear and tear on the door systems. This ensures excellent operating efficiency, lasting appearance, minimal maintenance and the consistently lowest lifecycle cost.

Sustainability of Dortek Products

Dortek, in developing our hygienic door sets for clean room applications, have developed extensive expertise in draft and air passage prevention. Incorporating this with the doors natural thermal insulation properties can significantly reduce an organisation’s air handling and heating costs and therefore carbon footprint.

Incorporating Sustainability in Door Selection

A decision on the right door for an application will need to take into account

· Lifetime of the product – how long will it last
· Maintenance requirements of the product (monetary and environmental)
· Operating Characteristics of the product (monetary and environmental)
· Overall efficiency and effectiveness of the product

There will usually be trade-offs between the cost of the product and it’s hygienic performance, it’s strength or it’s thermal performance. Likewise a door which is easy to recycle, but does not last long, is not the most environmentally friendly option when measured over 20 years.
